My alligator holds all of these materials :) I got him from a kid’s store in Singapore (called Squiggle?)

Materials:

  • Paint tin from Amazon
  • Extra pans from Amazon (size: half pan)
  • Winsor and Newton 12pc watercolor paint set from Amazon
    • I opted for Winsor and Newton to build the base of my set because I read that they're a solid mid-tier brand. I didn't want something too cheap that I'd have to replace once I became more experience and comfortable with watercolors but I also didn't want to buy $100 colors that I had no idea how to use. So far so good.

  • Other various Winsor and Newton watercolors and Designer's gouaches from local Blick art store
    • I wanted to add some "fun" bright colors to the base palette. I also got two gouaches, one in permanent white, and one in ochre yellow.
  • Magnetic tape from Amazon
  • Paintbrushes from Blick
    • I got a set of small brushes by Princeton. It has a 12/0 fan, 3 round, 20/0 liner, 3/0 round, and a 0 angular shader.

    • I also purchased an additional 20/0 spotter pettite by Princeton
  • Uniball Vision micro pen from Blick
    • This is a waterproof ink pen. You can draw and then paint over it without any problem! I don't do that tho, I just use this to caption my watercolors on the bottom with the date. lol

  • Small water-tight glass container from art teacher
    • I use this as my water when I'm on the scene painting.
    • I got this from an art teacher; he buys these on bulk from Amazon lol
  • Washi tape from Muji
  • Paper towel from mah kitchen
  • Watercolor Moleskine notebook Size L (not pictured)
  • Fujifilm X100F Camera (not pictured) (use to make the pictures)

Prepping the tin:

  1. Cut out small pieces of the magnet tape and affix to bottom of half-pans
  2. Fill half-pans with paint. Right before you pour the watercolor paint into the pan, label the side with a sharpie with what paint it is!
  3. Arrange pans in tin
  4. Let paint dry over ~1-2 days

Painting process:

  1. Use washi tape to tape down border of page
  2. Paint
  3. Let dry
  4. Remove washi tape
  5. Caption drawing with date and some generic words describing what you painted, in case your painting is so bad that the viewer can't tell what it is :)

Blogging:

  1. Take photo of painting; I like to include some of the background of the scene I just painted
  2. Use wireless function of camera to transfer pic(s) to iPhone
  3. Use Squarespace mobile app to make blog post
  4. Pray for a viewer
  5. Spam social media when you feel very lonely
